Pray for Macedonia

I had never really thought much about Macedonia until I met Scot and Misty this summer through 24/7.

This is an update on the Macedonian church from Scot’s recent visit:

We met with Zoran and talked about the situation in Macedonia how one town in the south which was previously the most lawless in the region is now seeing hundreds coming to know Jesus. This is giving them quite a headache, how do you lead and pastor a rapidly growing church which is incredibly immature, where most people cannot read or write, when your resource base is a 4 hour drive away and cash strapped. Still I guess as far as headaches go it’s a nice one.

We met with a wonderful Orthodox priest whose job it is to oversee mission and church integration in Macedonia. He is a brilliant man whose desire to see a sprit filled Orthodox Church in Macedonia was staggering. This is a man of God who can see how steeped in tradition and superstition the Orthodox church has become but believes in the church and Gods redemptive love and is looking for renewal from within the church. Staggering. Personally one of my dreams for the next few years is to see 24-7 prayer in an Orthodox Church context.

There’s more about his trip through the Balkans on his blog and also lots of pictures.

I’m reminded of Proverbs 3:5-6, which I looked up in The Message tonight to see how it read.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track.

I’m excited to hear what comes next with the church in Macedonia.  It’s miles away from the media spotlight and far from the “trendy” place to minister.  God is working away from the spotlight and media glare amongst a passionate people.
